Gail A. Marquis, MBA
Regional Executive Director
Gail Marquis is the Regional Director of the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Hudson County. Gail brings a wealth of knowledge and access within the community. She is also the Director of Community Relations for the School of Business and Director of the NJCU Business Development Incubator (BDI). In her capacity, Gail has revitalized the BDI by recruiting entrepreneurial businesses, start-ups and established small businesses to acquire office space and take advantage of the training and network provided.
She has implemented Job Placement and Internship Programs for NJCU School of Business partnering with area companies to incorporate local talent at their businesses.
Gail was named Regional Director of the NJSBDC at NJCU in 2016. She oversees a multilingual and diversified staff experienced in business counselling, funding, loan package development, seminars and certifications in a variety of industries.
Gail is an Olympic Champion, Silver Medalist and former professional athlete. Her business background began while working at banks and brokerage firms in downtown Wall Street, New York — Dean Witter Reynolds, PaineWebber, UBS, Merrill Lynch, J.P. Morgan Chase and MassMutual to name a few. Her 30 year career covered stints in business, finance, computer
programming, management and banking. She launched her own firm, G. Marquis~World Financial Services where she built a clientele of investors by advising them in the areas of Asset Accumulation, Insurance, Wealth Management and Estate Planning.
Gail serves on the boards of The Queens College Foundation (NY), The Wellesley Centers for Women (MA), United Nations Council on the Status of Women (NY), The New York City Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County (NJ).
Gail received her B.A. in Education and Psychology from Queens College (NY) and her M.B.A. in Business Administration from University of Phoenix. Gail is currently featured in a television commercial for the University of Phoenix along with Dr. Maya Angelou called “Still I Rise”. The 60-second commercial has received critical acclaim while inspiring many to set goals and reach for their dreams.
Chief Operations Officer
Mr. Izzi has over forty years of business experience, holding senior management positions as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Controller and Chief Technology Officer and Executive Director of New York City’s Financial Information Services Agency (FISA) during the Koch administration. His corporate employment credentials include, IBM, Pfizer, Financial Information Services Agency (City of New York), NUI and AJI Corporation.
Mr. Izzi is also a Professor of Finance at Montclair State and New Jersey City Universities. Additionally he is CEO of PTR Resources, a boutique consulting firm that specializes in obtaining funding for small business entrepreneurs. Mr. Izzi is a financial expert and has generated over $100 million dollars for small business entrepreneurs and serves as Chief Operations of the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Hudson County directing counseling services for small business entrepreneurs.
Mr. Izzi received his MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Providence College. Also, completed Doctoral studies at Ohio State and Michigan State Universities.
Authored and published “Small Business…Do it the Right Way!” AND is a decorated combat veteran having served in Vietnam.
Community Outreach Officer/Senior Business Consultant
Juan Medina is a Senior Business Consultant at the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Hudson County since 2010 and has been responsible for the expansion of the Hispanic outreach program due to his strong relationships and his command of the Spanish Language. He regularly works with entrepreneurs in various capacities including but not limited to, financial statements review, and general business structure evaluations, with the goal to identify best business practices and assure their continued growth; as well as, assisting the regional office with qualifying those clients who are in need of funding. He is also responsible for organizing and conducting seminars for startup and established businesses.
Juan has almost 10 years of small business banking experience covering a broad range of areas, including financial analysis and merchant business. Prior to joining the NJSBDC Juan Medina was a Merchant Services Account Executive at Sovereign Bank. His responsibilities included general marketing within targeted areas, financial assessments and customer service. He also worked closely with Business Bankers in creating analytical research reports and contributing to the development of new tactics that generated business.
During his college years and after his graduation, he worked for HSBC Bank as a Business Specialist where he was responsible for developing and managing profitable businesses relationships. He effectively profiled new businesses and assisted them in meeting their needs and goals.
Senior Business Consultant
Ryan Silvestre is a Senior Business Consultant at the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Hudson County, specializing in corporate finance and turnaround management. He has also assisted in developing and implementing programs for Spanish speaking entrepreneurs.
Mr. Silvestre has over 10 years of corporate finance experience covering a broad range of transaction types in different industries, including but not limited to, debt and equity raises, recapitalizations, valuation modeling and has assisted on several middle market M&A and LBO deals.
Prior to joining the SBDC, Mr. Silvestre was an Investment Banker and Business Development Officer with a boutique commercial finance firm owned by Morgan Stanley on Wall Street. He was responsible for establishing new national relationships, using their AR Facilities, ABL, and equity services. He also worked closely with senior C level directors in creating analytical research reports and contributing to the development of the marketing plan for the company.
During his college years and after his graduation, he worked with a small business broker where he was responsible for debt and equity placement with a focus on real estate and working capital loans. He also provided basic forensic accounting services to help develop greater efficiencies in the operations of small businesses allowing them to become more bankable. Lastly, he was also responsible for training and managing new sales hire.
Christian Pichardo is a Marketing Coordinator/Consultant at the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Hudson County. He specializes in digital marketing strategies and overall marketing plans. He has 3 years freelancing experience in digital marketing and consulting small businesses on tactics and strategy.
He achieved an A.S. in Business Administration with a 3.8 GPA and a B.A. in Marketing with a 3.8 GPA. He maintained his Dean’s List status throughout his university career. He holds a certification in Digital Marketing and Social Media Marketing.
Prior to joining NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) Christian Pichardo worked 5 years in sales and management.
Beshoy Hanna is an Associate Consultant at the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Hudson County. He is responsible for assisting the senior consultants with back office support. He develops first run recommendations based on general assessment of financial statements and business plans. He contributes to the creation of loan packages by collecting and organizing key documents.
Beshoy achieved two bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting with a 3.89 GPA. He currently holds lead certificates from: Wyndham Worldwide, Bloomberg Market Concepts and Certificate Excel Specialist. He was an active member of the Financial Management Association Club and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Prior to joining Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) Beshoy Hanna worked as part of the management team of a retail store and successfully managed a team of ten workers.
